TS-WXL - doesn't boot after installation

Closed this issue · 10 comments

Hi.
I tried to install Debian Buster now several times and spent hours but it just won't boot and hangs in EM.

It's the TS-WXL 2-bay. I use the partitions from the original firmware, 1 GB for /boot and 5.1 GB for / . Both in ext3 .

Tell me if you need more information.

Any help is appreciated.

Good to hear from you!

This behavior indicated that something is wrong with the boot partition. There are a few different possible issues, it sounds like you've already looked at a few of them.

Usually the issue is related to the partition layout, could you start the installer again and then post a screenshot of the partitioning screen before you continue past that point? I can then take a look and see if I can see an issue.

It's also possible that something is going wrong at the end of the installer where the new boot files are created. I'll try and run through it with mine and see if I run into any issues with that part.

I've automated the process of generating installer images which makes it possible to keep up with Debian's changes but also means if there is a problem I don't always notice right away.

Hi.
Thanks for your quick response. The screenshots are attached.

Thanks for your help :)

That looks about right, "RAID1 device #0" needs to be made up of sda1 and sdb1, I assume it is but the image doesn't really show.

Could you run through the rest of the install but without rebooting at the end? We can then connect to it in a second ssh session and look around for the problem.

I ran the install on mine and got the same issue, I'm working on a fix now. I should have updated installer images shortly.

Ah great, thank you man! So I'm gonna switch that NAS off for today and wait for your fix :-)

Turns out the fix doesn't require new images, just had to update the kernel repo.... long story.

It should work now, I'm kicking off the installer to verify but it should be working when you get a chance to try it.

Haha, simple fix :-)
I'll give it another try tomorrow and give you feedback.
It's just after midnight here in Germany. Thanks and good night.

My install succeeded this time.

Great, the installation succeeded for me too now. Thanks very much for the fast fix! :-)
Now I have to set up everything I need ^^.

I'm gonna close this out, let me know if you need anything else!
