2020-09-16 Tech Talk: Monoliths to Microservices with Sam Newman

davemcorwin opened this issue · 7 comments

Sam Newman will be joining us to talk about decomposition patterns for breaking down monolith applications into a service-based architecture. What patterns work best when working with migrating legacy systems into services or microservices? What approaches are likely to be most successful? (Is the Strangler Fig still relevant?)

  • Presenter: Sam Newman of samnewman.io and author of Building Microservices and Monolith to Microservices
  • MC: @davemcorwin

Todo for the MC:

  • Update the TTS Events calendar entry for this talk to add the talk details.
  • Enable Relay Conference Captioning (RCC) via FedRelay.
  • Ask the parties responsible for the Engineering Chapter newletter for that week to add details about the talk(s) to the newsletter.
  • Announce the talk(s) in #dev on Slack in the morning, and follow up with a reminder just before they're about to begin.
  • Upload video.

@davemcorwin - can we use Zoom and record this instead of google meet? We have the speaker's permission to record.
I also don't know what other notice we need to give folks about it being recorded except at the start of the event. Do you?

Okay, I'm fine with Meet, as long as good recordings can be made and published somewhere (gdrive).

Is the meet in the calendar correct? I need to send to the presenter.

@kfoley-18F The calendar item has been updated.

Thank you!!
