Yeah, that is part of the motivation of package-local-nicknames, but that only works on 1 or 2 lisp implementations so far. Even if it were more common, switching to it would probably break a lot of existing code using cl-opengl, so not completely sure it would be worth the effort unless CLX's GL support has gotten a lot better/more popular since last time I looked at it.
