small variants unlocked at game start
medium variants unlocked at :
- Autonomous Materials for food
- Extreme Atmospherics for industry
- Neural Robotics for industry storage
large variants unlocked at :
- either Crust Engineering (T4) or Megarisk Containment (T5) for industry (note that this is likely to change depending on game pace current meta and stuff)
- Adaptive Colonies for growth (im pretty sure this one will stay the same)
- Superscale Uniform Standards (Automatons T4 tech) for industry storage
