Investigate other methods of data transfer

SMS is ok and so, but it costs (even if not much) and takes some time (from a few seconds to half a minute). There might be other, better ways of data transfer:

Zigbee mesh network, where each control is also a repeater?
Some sort of cables? (might not be a good idea)
