Spinning icon is cute but it reminder me web page with BLINK tags 👎
After a while I get hypnotized.
Few ideas.
icon as light bulb, down-arrow like in safari,
Some might need 2 colors (green-red or black-grey...) others just 2 shapes ⚫︎⚪︎ ⬛︎⬜︎
top of the top... user-defined emoji or symbol
👣🐫 🏃🏻🚀⛵️💡🚥🐠
Later if some needs, in-out traffic icons... starts to look like littlesntich ;-)
Or with 2 small counters in the menu bar

6 Recent | R | ○ | ▽
For me, current spinning icon is better than suggested icons.
It's way simpler, cleaner, and fit to purpose.
There are many options for monitor network in detail.
But I need simple one, and that's why I use Loading.
not a fan of spinner, ⚫︎⚪︎ ⬛︎⬜︎ is good enough to me. 👍
