hi, I tried using the web downloader and installing the add-on but both things didn't work, they simply don't do anything, not even an error message. i tried disabling both firewall and anti-virus but it didn't help

Are you on Win 10? It's possible that Win 10 changed something with an update and opening links programmatically broke because of it, I say this because I see a different project that uses the same module to open links got a similar issue recently:
sungshon/PimpMyStremio#80

I'll try updating the module used to open links in hopes that it fixed the Win 10 issues, I'll tell u when I had the time to update it.
