Institution name: UC Berkeley

  • This updates an existing institution.

I'm a current PhD student at UC Berkeley, and I created a comprehensive guide on the funding situation for PhD students within EECS at Berkeley. The document is sourced primarily from department emails & presentations, which are quoted and linked from the document. In short, because of our new contracts and new department policy, the funding amounts going forward for new (i.e. first-year) students have changed:

Annual Stipend Amount (USD, both Pre-Qualification and Post-Qualification if different):

  • Minimum: for 2023-24, the department has guaranteed students a funding package of ~$34,192.33. This includes $29,736.25 guaranteed during the school year (fall/spring semesters), and $4,456.08 guaranteed during the summer.
  • Majority: although exact funding amounts for summer are still unclear, it is likely that the majority of students will receive a total school year + summer funding amount of $52,016.66.
  • On top of this, advisors potentially may be able to pay their students more than this amount beginning the summer of their first year, although this is unconfirmed.

All other figures for Berkeley remain the same.

Can you provide an official source of the stipend? If so I can create the checkmark.
