Right eye edge artifacts (VP2)

Closed this issue · 3 comments

No matter the chosen resolution, whether the kernel patches are applied or not (though obviously they were necessary for resolution 4 and 5 without a broken image), I get artifacts around the perimeter of my right eye's display.

This doesn't happen on Windows at all, and they're right at the edges of the screen so this only happens with the headset as close to my eyes as possible, however this is how I normally wear it due to the FOV advantages. Also, even if I don't directly see these patterns (by setting the lenses to be further from my eyes), they cause glare on the sides of the lenses sometimes due to being so bright.

Here is the best image that I managed to capture through the lens.

As you can see, it's more than just the Fresnel distortion causing rainbowing.

Kernel; 6.6.3 (but applies to all that I've tried)
SteamVR: 2.1.8 (but applies to 1.27.5, however not to 2.1.9 beta, but this beta also breaks lens server for me)
AMD GPU

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Deleting the lens server exe (to make it unable to run) fixes this artifacting. It also ruins the image in other ways, which is expected, however it seems like this issue isn't SteamVR or Kernel related, and it's a problem with lens server

This is an upstream issue with known workaround: ValveSoftware/SteamVR-for-Linux#480

Thank you! That was the issue. I am also unable to use 120hz, but I'll create a separate issue for this to better organise things. Closing this issue, much appreciated.
