Notification ring does not appear when screen is off

When I first installed the app, the notification worked when the screen was on or locked on, but not if the screen is off. During setup, I used all the recommended settings. My phone had an update so, I uninstalled the app, did the phone update and then reinstall the app with the same issue. I turned the phone completely off for a short bit and then turned it back on, but it still does not give a notification when the screen is off.
I really like everything I have seen so far, and the setup was simple, but the main reason for installing the app is to see a notification when the screen is off, but that is not working.
Any ideas?
I experienced the same thing, and suspect you overlooked the same thing I initially did. In the default setup, it doesn't actually set itself to turn on!
Under "When and how to display" find "Battery: Screen off", and make sure you set it to something besides "none".
