Version.txt missing, breaks setup.py

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Extract files
2. switch to the directory with extracted files
3. type 'sudo python setup.py install'
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Setup log for installing the library
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
.5.3 on Ubuntu Linux
