Some markdown not being interpreted

I found this bit of markdown in one of our existing pages:

[Intro to SWORD 2.0](/intro-to-sword-2)

It looks like legitimate markdown, but it is not being interpreted into a link

is it inside html tags? markdown can only be interpreted when not nested inside html

tested the above and it works fine. Assuming the problem was due to nesting inside html, closing.
