Not able to use a £ sign in the etherpad

When I enter a £ sign in the etherpad, such as on this page:

http://cottagelabs.com/news/web-presence-wrong-cost-higher-education

I get a £ instead when the page is rendered. Some sort of character encoding issue, perhaps?

Fixed by stripping any  which appears to be getting added by the etherpad export.
