Introduce the idea of "key tags"

Closed this issue · 3 comments

There is huge utility on our site for having pages tagged appropriately, particularly ensuring that projects are tagged "project", reports are tagged "report" and so on. I wonder if it's worth introducing the idea of "key tags", which we define and give definitions to so that when you tag a page, you can be sure that you're setting the right tags for it.

You would have free range with your tags, as usual, but there would be a pull-down or something which listed key tags, with a brief description, and you could just hit the ones you want. I see this as being distinct from having a tag selector which lists all of the tags.

I dont think this will work. people either just forget altogether, or get them right. to be absolutely certain, the only way to do it is to derive from the url space. and even that relies on people creating pages at the right address.

If you had a pull-down you could order tags by how often they were used. Haven't seen the interface - just an idea.

(sorry if this is a wontfix btw, seemed open and I was wondering about better discoverability myself)

This has been open for some time, and we now have better selectability of appropriate tags (which are indeed ordered by their popularity). So closing this.
