links should work in the "description" field of a markdown file

As noted by Bram on the webteam channel on 10th Jan 2023, links do not work when inserted in the description field of a markdown file (see image below)

We discussed this in our meeting and decided that the fix is non-trivial and not really needed as the workaround of not using links in the description field is acceptable. This approach also encourages the reader to open the news article rather than just jumping straight to the external link.
