Suggestion: Open-source the Rockit hardware

Opened this issue · 0 comments

I would like to propose the idea of open-sourcing the Rockit hardware by providing the PCB/CAD/EDA design files for Rockit. I think this would bring a lot of potential benefits to the project:

  • Allow collaboration and foster innovation: If the design files are open-sourced, the community can make contributions and help improve the Rockit hardware for future revisions, potentially adding new features, capabilities, or fix issues.
  • Educational value: For any Rockit users who are learning about micro-controllers, electronics, and design and fabrication, having the design files open-sourced would allow exploration into how the Rockit works and would serve as a valuable educational asset.
  • Increased adoption: If the platform is open-sourced, it could lead to wider adoption among hobbyists wishing to embrace an open platform, potentially even leading to integrations with other open-source hardware or Rockit expansion shields/hats built on an open standard. Open-sourcing the platform would also open up the opportunity to receive OSHW certification (https://certification.oshwa.org/)

Thanks for considering this suggestion, as well as for all your fantastic work on the Rockit.
