Keep you posted.

Hi Thomas,

Personally I find boat rides restricted for connecting to many people. Everybody has to be in time for boarding and you can only talk to a few people next to you until you are kicked out again. It is December, which means dark when IBC day ends, high chance on rain and cold due to a combination of humidity and wind. On the positive side if it is clear the light reflection on the water is nice and it can be a good experience

I would just rent a bar or alternative brewery if Heineken is too big. Something where people can come and go and also talk outside. But perhaps that is me. ‘Brouwerij het IJ’ for example, it also has a mill and all for the tourists. Here an impression how it looks beginning of Dec: https://www.brouwerijhetij.nl/badhuis-tot-brouwerij/ By the way, I do not know if they rent out to groups.

Greeting from Bram

I called and they would not do groups

This place offers a nice terrace and is available. It fits up to 150 people and is available. It is 500 Euros for 2 hours (or 600 for 3 hours) and then you can order drinks and snacks on the fly. It was recommended by Rob Koenen.

Of the two, I think i favor Café de Jaren, for the following reasons

  1. Can accommodate 100 people versus 70 on boat for same price of rental, food and drink.
  2. Flexibility of arrival and departure is a big deal and easier for people to attend.
  3. Easier to move around and talk to different groups
  4. It will be night and raining, so not much to see on the boat.
    Cheers

  • I'm worried people do not like to be in close spaces like boats because of Covid. Plus people can show up at any time.

BTW, I have been to ‘Brouwerij'. It is nice but more down to earth and I don't if the inside is big enough. Outside is bigger. And I don't know if they have any drinks but beer.

I checked and they told me that they cannot host large groups nor can we make reservations.

The Cafe de Jaren is reserved for 1 week

Hi Thomas,

I will keep it for a week. I will let you know if we get another enquiry for that day.

I think the Cafe de Jaren is a good choice. I favor this approach ove the boat. I like the sequestered area, where hopefully (I expect) we'll have a bar just for our event. Venue cost and food and drink costs seems reasonable (and containable). I would assume we could have a combination tab/cash bar. E.g. if someone wants a round of some special (and expensive), libation, they can just pay for it. Location is good. We could target it for 100 people with room for casual ad-ons. A 6:30 start would mean one would have to pretty much head straight over from the RAI after the show, but if we start at 6:45 or 7:00 most folks could probably drop by their hotel on the way.

I'd go with the cafe as well. I like the flexibility (when people can come and go) and share the concern that some might not like to be "packed" in a boat.

As I said, I'm in favor of cafe de jaren. Just keep in mind we don't have any sponsors yet and DASH-IF doesn't have much marketing money. So keep the level of orders flexible with cafe de jaren until we sign up the sponsors.

I just announced that Qualcomm can sponsor up to 2k$. So we are half way, I believe.
