The removal of recovery.conf in PostgreSQL 12 will necessitate a fundamental reworking of the way repmgr manages PostgreSQL's replication configuration.
For repmgr 4.4 it would be useful to have an initial working implementation for PostgreSQL 12 so this can be tested while PostgreSQL 12 is under development.
An partial implementation exists in branch dev/ian/pg12-support.
