Research on people not found in Wikidata

Opened this issue · 13 comments

Hi everyone! In working on this project, I have come across a few names that I was not able to find in Wikidata. Probably these people were obscure or not as well known as the others. I propose adding the following names and road names in this thread as an organizing point for others (who know the local history better) to do research. The aim would be to make a bare-bones Wikidata entry in order to obtain an Q# that can be added in the new tag to complete the challenge.

Name: Edouard-Payot
Road: Rue Edouard-Payot

Status: under investigation by @eginhard
potential match: http://www.fifres-tambours-lausanne.ch/pages/historique.php

Name: Henri-Antoine de Crousaz
Road: Avenue Henri-Antoine de Crousaz

Status: Solved by @eginhard

Name: Robert de Menthon
Road: Avenue Robert de Menthon

Status: under investigation by @eginhard

Name: François-de-Lucinge
Road: Chemin François-de-Lucinge

Potential match but not sure: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q75359488

I find some mentions of Edouard Payot as directeur du Collège Classique Cantonal, e.g. http://www.fifres-tambours-lausanne.ch/pages/historique.php

Henri-Antoine de Crousaz should be https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q106713756 (via https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isabelle_de_Montolieu)

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famille_de_Menthon mentions a Robert de Menthon who could fit.

I'll try to see if the street signs mention any dates or other info.

Name: Jaques-Larguier des Bancels
Road: Chemin Jaques-Larguier des Bancels

Name: Moille Saugeon
Road: Chemin de Moille Saugeon

Comment: I am pretty sure that this is indeed a person but I have yet to find any information

Name: Chemin de Pierre Ozaire
Road: Chemin de Pierre Ozaire and Route de Pierre Ozaire

Comment: According to this, the name origin is unknown

Name: Pierre-de-Plan
Road: Chemin de Pierre-de-Plan

Comment: According to this, the person might be a saint. As such, I think a general rule would be not to add road names with biblical/mythical persons. What do you think?

Status: Don't add as per discussion with @eginhard

Name: Philippe-François-de-Langallerie
Road: Rue Philippe-François-de-Langallerie

Comment: I made this Wikidata entry after finding this geni.com page. I therefore added it to the road name. Can someone confirm that this looks good?

Seems fine and also matches https://web.archive.org/web/20200628185514/https://lumieres.unil.ch/fiches/bio/733/. I just added basic descriptions to the wikidata entry (I'm completely new to wikidata, but the descriptions and dates are shown in the popup cards on https://lausanne.equalstreetnames.eu, so are very useful).

'Q20643955' => true, // human biblical figure
includes Q20643955 (human biblical figure), which might correspond to saints? Not sure how it works. I think saints are fine if the streets are obviously named after them. However, in this case I'm not sure about the origin. https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q41800664 is a church of Saint-Pierre in the commune of Fresne-le-Plan. Chemin de Pierre-de-Plan doesn't seem to be obviously related to those at all.

Road: Chemin de Pierre Ozaire and Route de Pierre Ozaire

Comment: According to this, the name origin is unknown

I assume these roads are named after the stream Pierre Ozaire that appears to be nearby, regardless after what the stream is named. A wikidata entry for the stream could be added and it doesn't seem to be on OSM yet either.

Road: Chemin de Moille Saugeon

From what I can find a nearby clearing is called Moille Saugeon: https://www.randosources.ch/de/excursions/3/extras/3/

Jaques-Larguier des Bancels

I'll hide comments that are resolved for an easier overview of the remaining ones.
