turbine blockage models

Closed this issue · 5 comments

Hello all, first thanks for sharing this project. Having tested I like that the computations are really fast, and the clarity for how to setup and run cases.

My question must be pretty obvious to ask given the wind industry interest and buzz on this topic in the last years : do you have in plan to implement a range of farm blockage model and iterative solver for foxes?

It would be a nice addition, but I am not sure of the level of effort. Thanks!

Thank you very much for this issue, and for trying foxes!

Yes, indeed we have this planned. I totally agree that blocking models are important. We have implemented those in the (in-house) predecessor code, and will sooner or later transfer them here. Cannot tell you the timeline though, currently wind farm optimization is a topic, and after that probably yawed rotors.

Thanks for the input!

A first step has been implemented in branch dev: The iterative algorithm. Will be part of the next release.

First tests within the examples single_state and timeseries seem to be working fine - together with the dummy wake frame rotor_wd_farmo from the model book. The latter orders the turbines according to their appearence in the wind farm turbine list, hence the combination with the iterative approach.

What remains to be implemented are the actual blockage models.

Thank you for the feed-back!

... just to give a life sign, we started implementing this recently... thanks for the patience

Finally a first model has been implemented: the Rankine-Half-Body induction model. See example in the docu of version 0.5.1
