[REQUEST] Mangadex Api v5 Support

Opened this issue Β· 14 comments

I will add support for the new API.

I'm currently trying to update the extension to make my life easier and the extension usable once the new front end rollout, if everything goes right it should be relatively easy and I would only need to read and understand the new front end code to make the extension work again.
The branch i'm working on is currently not public as it's still a work in progress that can't even be tested since MangaDex is still down.

For the new API, there isn't a lot of API calls in SyncDex since I'm mostly using what's already on the page, so it should be relatively easy to update those calls.

I'm assuming you know, but the frontend is out now. As an aside, is mymangadex being phased out in favor of syncdex? Alot of the functionality seems similar and it doesn't look like they are meant to be run concurrently.

I'm aware that the frontend is out, it's just that I have other projects with higher priorities right now.

I explained it in a MyMangaDex issue, but MyMangaDex will probably get archived since the UI (and code) change is too different and I don't want to support 2 versions of the same thing as you said.
The reason for MyMangaDex to still be here while SyncDex is out was that it was unstable at first. It probably still will be, but MyMangaDex doesn't work anymore.

excited for the day!οΌˆοΎ‰ο½‘β‰§β—‡β‰¦οΌ‰οΎ‰

Sorry for the lack of updates.

I started working on an update for SyncDex before MangaDex went back on, and I made some progress but when MangaDex was up the things I wanted to do were impossible since the MangaDex app is compiled. I wanted to make a Vue "plugin" which I could hook up to MangaDex so I could easily access the other Components and have a lot of the work done by MangaDex itself, and in the meantime make my life easier.
But, as I said since it's compiled, the only "dynamic" thing I can watch is the current route (URL) you're currently on.

I was kind of disappointed and lost my motivation and also intereset, I'm not reading manga these days and I primarily made it for myself so I'm not really motivated to update it.

But, I received some comments and I want to update it, it's just that I'm not in a hurry and I want to make it right, so there is no ETA at all, but it will certainly come.

In the meantime, you can use MALSync which works on MangaDex and added support for other sites like Anilist and Kitsu, if I'm correct, I'm not using it so I'm not sure.
I know it's not the same and I didn't like it when I used it some years ago, and I don't know if there is the same features, that's why I made "my own", but it will sync your list (hopefully ?).

That's very cool of you. I certainly thought your app added a ton of functionality and quality of life to mangadex and honestly made it feel more like what - in my mind - the site should have been by default.

Currently mangadex is still slow opening so idk how useful a rush job would even be, and your own circumstances are totally understandable. I just wanted to let you know how useful your app has been for me while using mangadex.

Same here, your app was really useful when mangadex closed. I just had to go back to my previous habits with mangaupdates :)
Thanks again, and take your time to update it !

i really really liked yours better than malsync, i will still wait for the updated!
in the meantime ill use malsync (i dont think it works for md(tried a few weeks ago), which is a let down) for other reading sites for titles that dont exist in md(i use MOV on other sites so it pretty quick to load), its sad that i cant update md tho. but it will do for now. md isnt even fully functional yet anyways.
take your time, slowly but surely. ❀️

I always found MALsync to be very confusing, annoying, and buggy to use.
mostly the "you can only sync to one tracker at a time because of reasons" and the general awful layout.

Hopefully MD will implement some of these improvements like germzx mentioned, it felt like how MD was supposed to work.

All the best πŸ™‚

add laggy, and slow too πŸ˜”
atleast for me it is
its not bad but isnt like syncdex fast, and all. malsync also still doesnt work for md πŸ’€ but plus side is it works for many sites i nearly dont use ever or even if i did it wouldnt be as much or even half of md 😐. it a plus if you do, though not for me

Really sad to see man, I just found this and was excited to finally sync all my MAL progress to MangaDex to start using Neko instead but I guess I will have to live with my current Tachiyomi setup.

Thanks for the hard work anyways.

Sorry, I still plan to update SyncDex, but I made it for myself originally and I kind of lack motivation since I'm not really reading that much anymore, maybe why I can't find the motivation to update it in my free time, I'm also currently busy with other projects when I'm not working...

No problem man, we all have stuff in life.
I hope you the best.

Hmm, guess I'll disable it until this gets updated, it looks like it doesn't work with the new MD version.
