I think it would also be good to provide a greyscale map and one of the nine regions of England or the other constituent countries, and your task is to name the counties and imagine the border. Then on the back you're told the counties and they get highlighted. This would be a fairly hard set of cards, but, I think, would be necessary to tie everything together.

I do like this idea, but as Scotland has 32 "counties" (actually council areas) so this suggestion wouldn't really be feasible for Scotland.

Potential solutions would be:

  1. to break up Scotland into smaller regions, but I like the consistency of using the NUTS1 regions throughout, otherwise it feels a little arbitrary.

  2. To omit Scotland from this type of card completely. Again, I like the consistency and also I wouldn't want anyone to feel left out ;)

If you have any other suggestions/potential solutions I'd be happy to hear them, I think I'll hold off on this idea for this release though.
