Virtual mode is not supported under the current user

Hi!

I'm sorry if this has already been brought up and a solution has been given, but I tried a search and I wasn't able to find a post with this specific problem.

Basically, I'm not able to log in to certain accounts and I'm not sure why this is happening. It just fails to launch and I get the message "virtual mode is not supported under the current user"

So far I can launch GW2 through Steam with no problems, but for those that are direct ANet accounts I can't

You have to use basic mode. Settings > Guild Wars 2 > Management > Mode: Basic.

Virtual mode relies on %appdata% being a variable path, which allows for each account to have its own "%appdata%\Guild Wars 2" folder. When you override the path of %appdata% in the registry, it's no longer possible to do this.

Hi! Thanks for the response.

I just checked and it's already on basic mode. It was working fine yesterday but all of a sudden it's not. I mean, so far I can launch the first two accounts and the steam acount without any issue, but my latest account isn't launching for some reason.

Are there other settings I may need to look into for this?

Is it still showing "Virtual mode is not supported under the current user" for the reason? That shouldn't be possible, as that error can only occur if it's not set to basic mode.

Right click any account > Tools > Log. Launch the account. It may show other errors.

It's still showing that error, yes.

I even tried to clone my primary account which was working and I was getting the same error on the clone, but my primary is still working.

Hi

Here's an update

1. I managed to fix it by just deleting the accounts that were not working and creating new ones from scratch.

2. But this then made my original working accounts to just not work because it wouldn't download the patch.

3. So to fix this I cloned those originally working accounts, and those clones worked.

4. I then deleted the originally working accounts.

Thanks for those taking the time to help. Maybe someone can figure out what exactly went wrong with those extra accounts, but at least I may have hopefully added a troubleshooting option for those who may experience the same thing I did.
