I accidently borked my booting ability on my C drive, so I bought a new drive and installed Win 11. Am I able to retain anything from the previous install to which I have access to the files? ( I have a significant # of pws I dont want to re-enter, and I don't understand the settings very well so I'd rather keep those as well)..
Passwords are encrypted to the user by default, so unless you can boot the drive, you won't be able to recover those. If the passwords were remembered by GW2, they're also encrypted and can't be transferred.
To recover the settings, press WindowsKey+R and open:
%appdata%
A folder should popup. If you've launched Gw2Launcher, there will be a Gw2Launcher folder. Find the Gw2Launcher folder on the old drive. Inside the Gw2Launcher folder, copy everything except the data folder to the new drive. For the data folder, only copy the files directly inside. Launch Gw2Launcher after copying the files and it should be as it was, except passwords will be corrupted.
If you can boot the old drive, start Gw2Launcher > Settings > Security > change the encryption to portable and OK out of the settings for it to save. Settings > Backup > create a backup that includes the files. On the new drive > Settings > Backup > restore the backup.
thanks. is it only .bkz files ? (because in the old drive backup directory I have a bunch of .bk files but I think I would have given them a more informative name, who knows. I think I would have tried to create a backup at some point and I vaguely recall doing so, but I guess I dunno if the setting was correct.
%appdata%\Gw2Launcher\settings.dat is the current settings. The backups folder is previous versions of those settings.
Manually created backups are .bkp files.
