A contribution guide would help for new contributors to understand the codebase easier and how to contribute correctly.
It would consist of explaining the important parts of the codebase, like the PIO stuff, etc - which I myself don't understand - getting the grasp of things like that would definetely make it easier for me to understand the codebase and hopefully contribute.
Many repositories do have something like this, usually in a "CONTRIBUTION.md" file
