Current version:

  • Current mod version: 0.9.4
  • Current MSFS version: 1.12.13.0

Feedback from real-world c152 pilot

  • this C152 takes off too easy as well..probably because it's overpowered
  • aerodynamic braking is better with this mod after landing (has never been good in MSFS as it usually wants to take off again instead of settle)
  • 1700 RPM with 10 degree flaps abeam the numbers seems right with around 75-80kts on downwind with a slight descent
  • 1500 RPM with 20 degress flaps on base seems underpowered slightly (goes to 67kts should be around 70-75kts)
  • cruise at 2300RPM seems overpowered as I get right to the yellow caution range...should sit somewhere around 93-95kts indicated....overpowered! The old C152X mod was better powered in 0.17 but again...it was modeled as extended range tank model with a powerful engine...I don't know how to explain it
  • idle should sit a little lower on RPM (hovers around 700-800RPM when no throttle) Should be more like 600-700RPM
  • panel lighting should not control night lighting...wrong light is emanating the red light...it should come from the non-existent light in front of the cabin light. The switch night lighting does not look like the real thing on the panel (it has always been this way with MSFS as well as the default aircraft). It would be great to be able to have the "panel" light be the dome light and the rotating light switch be realistically modeled on the panel and controlled solely from the rotating light switch instead of turned on with the dome light toggle switch

Just my two cents from training and flying the C152 as a student and private pilot for almost 5 years

Thanks for your feedback!
I am going to review the overpower soon and reduce - Something changed in the recent ASOBO Update and it's wayyyyy to fast now!

Hey @N95JPL , thanks for this project! I'm interested in contributing, happy to take a look at these and open a PR if you like.

Hey! Feel free, I will add you to our Developer Repo when I get a moment!
Thanks!

@damienstanton I have added you, if you haven’t already hit me up on Discord (details on the read me!)
Are you familiar with MSFS Developer Mode?

@N95JPL Thanks! I got your note in the Discord server.

I've done one PR against the C152X repo so I am broadly familiar with the dev workflow for a mod. Looking forward to digging into this one; I'll certainly ping you on chat if I have any questions/issues.

@N95JPL I've branched and started to work on this, feel free to assign the issue to me if you like.

I'm going to work through the list in the coming week or two and open a PR. @EricFlight if you think of anything else that could help match up with TRL aircraft, let me know! I can definitely tweak the performance specs, the panel lighting might be a bit more tricky.

@damienstanton awesome, have you branched the developer?
Also it won't let me assign this to you on mobile (apparently can't find you?!) I'll sort on desktop later!
Also, I will take a look into the lighting - I am going to re-tweak the aircrafts lighting as a whole I think!
Thanks again

Sure thing, I just saw the invite (not sure how I missed the email). I just joined the org so I can see the dev repo now.

Heads up that I've modified the OP and the boxes to be checked are what I am working against in the dev branch. I'll update again once I've implemented those remaining tasks. The light switch might be out of scope here since that could require a new model or adjustments to the panel, I'll be focusing on the flight dynamics alone.

Version 0.9.5
MSFS version 1.13.16.0

Just tried it out tonight:

  • 20 degrees flaps on base still around 60-67kts...too slow...in a non-headwind calm situation it should sit 70-75kts
  • cruise is still overpowered (up to the yellow caution still) should sit around 90-95kts at 2300RPM or so
  • idle sits better at 600-700RPM
  • Takeoff seemed more realistic

Just my two cents. I'll keep testing newer versions but this one got a little better in my opinion

Just thought of one last thing...

Can you get the transponder light to flash when set to ALT to show that it is working and sending a signal out? Should blink about once a second while set to ALT.

Is that what the KT76C does?
I've not used one in person, only the KT74!

The KT76C does flash (just saw it in one of my real life flight videos) while on ALT

See the night time flashing in the video link I gave you above. It was squawked to 1200 and on ALT

Version 0.9.71
MSFS version 1.13.16.0

Just tried it out today:

Cons:

  • Cruise IAS indicates a little faster than usual....probably overpowered in cruise by just a little bit (3-5 knots at most)
  • just if you could fix the night lighting (which I know might be impossible due to MSFS limitations) with what I provided above
-Try to get the transponder light above ident to flash about once per second to a second and a 1/4 when squawking ALT (default only lights when you have it on test) - see my night time video from link above to see what it does when on ALT and 1200

I think you have a winner here though!

Pros:
-Takeoff seemed a lot more realistic (even more than before)
-10, 20, 30 degree flap speeds in pattern/while landing are more realistic and doing around what I think they should

  • landing and aerodynamic braking are working more realistically
  • taxiing is very life like (going about 1500RPM to get it going and settling back at 1200RPM for a slight jog speed while taxiing)
  • Overall...dynamics are basically right now or very very near to close to the feeling of real flight (good job!)

Suggestions (if possible after fixing above - probably not likely but I'll throw it out there):

  • make the sun visors usable
  • make the air vents able to be opened and closed
  • make the doors open and close
  • if you could come up different types of transponders/radios for variations it would be great (I also know it would be a lot of work)
  • maybe try to design an IFR model

Just my two cents. Also, I will try to simulate a cross country flight with checkpoint times and we'll see how it performs

Just want to confirm as I'm testing Beta 6 right now....the animations and enhanced graphics only are in only in select liveries? I'm using a default MSFS livery and while the tweaks to performance are the same, I can't open doors, move visors, no items in the back, etc...Not a big deal but just wanted to ask as if we want these features switching liveries is easy.

It sounds like you're using the Default C152?
The animations etc will work on all liveries made for the mod,
Make sure you select the aircraft with weird screenshots from the aircraft selector menu not the Asobo Default!
