Remote issues on AppleTV Gen1 OpenElec

The Gen1 remote has the direction buttons, select, and menu. When using PTVL, the remote control seems to slip into the video player context with no way to get back to the PTVL context.

For example:
When I first start PTVL, I can change channels and open the epg, but after I change channels using the epg I can no longer access the epg. I can play/pause/rw/ff, but up/down changes the volume instead of the channel. Select/enter brings up the video osd instead of the epg. The only way to exit is to use the on screen controls to stop the video. I get the same behavior when using an xbmc remote on my ipad also.
