Jorixon/JASM

Cannot update to version 2.12.2.

Opened this issue · 2 comments

Describe the bug
When trying to update JASM to version 2.12.2, the installation gets stopped and the Elevator.exe process gets flagged by Windows Security as a Trojan.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open JASM
  2. Try to update
  3. Go through the update process as normal
  4. Get Windows Security notification about Threats Found.

Expected behavior
NOT a threat to be detected, although it's probably a false positive.

Additional context
This can be fixed by just allowing the 'threat', but it's better to be safe in case it is infected.

Whelp, I don't have any control over defender's scanning and detection settings. IIRC it is possible to buy a Microsoft license to sign the exes but this costs around 200 $ a month, so not realistic for me.

Ouch; yeah that's really expensive. For now, just allowing the 'threat' works fine and I haven't noticed any unintended behavior, so I would recommend informing in descriptions/readme's that the Elevator.exe process may be flagged, but it's safe... or not include it but make it an optional install since it's an optional process anyways.
