Thanks a lot for your help. I think it may be sensible to perhaps wait for that to be merged in at this stage. I don't need enigmail immediately, and waiting seems a lot easier than bloating the snap with multiple desktop-launchers.

Considering that the difficulties continue if you stray into the realms of accessing or locking hardware like smartcards from GnuPG, I'd say a proper portal is the only clean way to implementing something user-friendly:

pinentry-gnome3 is not DE agnostic, so shipping an alternative (+ the scripting to choose the correct one) is required, I think.
