KDE: 'Configure Desktop' won't load

this blocks setting a wallpaper.
somehow it opened now, though with a few tabs containing errors like Error: Could not load: file:///nix/store/crpxaxj72r77m1fb6zyl3hihcx0mglr1-plasma-workspace-5.13.4-bin/share/plasma/wallpapers/org.kde.slideshow/contents/ui/config.qml:22 plugin cannot be loaded for module "QtQuick.Controls": Namespace 'QtQuick.Controls' has already been used for type registration. Other tabs mention different qml files and registry paths (org.kde.private.desktopcontainment.desktop, org.kde.private.desktopcontainment.folder).
Edit: this may be part of a larger problem, as I'm having trouble opening Konsole again as well.
a reboot fixed those now. wallpaper path also appears set. time to ditch that slideshow.sh.
