Merge RickerPack and Kick Collection into SF2 File

Just a thought but I noticed we have some collections which hit each note such as the Riser Pack and the Kick collection.
I would argue those should be converted to soundfonts and be a single SF2 file, not a bunch of individual samples.
My point is that we're trying to make a pack of better quality, most useful samples and having A,B,C,C#,D is sort of a step backwards... but that's ok, that's what SoundFonts are for...
This would also have the added benefit of finally shipping a relatively small SF2 file with our software, which currently we do not have any of (I have a maraca SF2 file I created, it's pretty easy).
There's plenty of freebies out there for creating SF2s and on the Windows side of the fence, SynthFont is one that I think it pretty easy to use.
While that sounds like a good idea, there are a couple of issues I can see with it.
First off, the SF2 player in LMMS does not have the same depth of control as AFP. I exclusively use AFP for percussion because I do heavy editing to individual samples.
Second, consolidating does save space... until you load the SF2 multiple times to add different effects to each sound. Conceptually this would work well for things that the user will only be using one at a time, but there are still the problems of SF2 not having the envelope features of AFP, and if it did what happens when people want a certain envelope on riser 1 but not 2?
Just my 2 cents.
and having A,B,C,C#,D
You also have to consider that they are all distinctly different kicks both in tone and pitch.
PS chk mail pls
I think we can do this for future packs but I think we are complicating things. We need to focus and finish this sample library for now. Then we can do much more fancy stuff. :)
@HDDigitizerMusic, I think @StakeoutPunch's point are much more valid in this context. What I'm proposing does focusing on finishing it and there's nothing fancy about an SF2 file. 🚲
Since SF2s lack some features that we've grown to expect in the AudioFile Processor, it's the loss of functionality -- specifically the envelope -- that could be detrimental to it's usage.
If you've ever used a drum sample inside an SF2 you'd realize it's quite refreshing not to have 15 tracks to hit 15 different notes.

Yeah, I have a few SF2s I use for playing with my RBII set. You can't do that with AFP ;D
I think it is safe to call this closed for now, with the issues it presents and the fact that we potentially don't even have samples atm.
But, I think that issue will be fixed when LMMS gets a proper "Drum Rack" instrument LMMS/lmms#1087. That will Allow editing like in AFP and also have the convenience of a SF2.
Should this be closed then, and wait to implement when there is a drum rack?
Not my call. I still stand behind my opinion that a dozen or more kicks at different notes is wrong in our sample pack and better suited for a SF2. Whether SF2s get envelope or a new drumpad shows up, it won't happen for a while.
It's really up to the samples team to make this call so don't hesitate to close it if that's consensus. 👍
I feel like waiting too. It depends on the samples, if these are tombs and in their own folder I think it is okay. If it is almost identical kicks, then no. No, sorry HDD, but I had maximum used 5 of those anyway.
