Would be nice if I could close the current page after clicking one of the header buttons in it (for example, handy when that header button leads to the deletion of the resource displayed on that page).

We've had something like this, I can't find it just now, but I'll add a close parameter to a message, so you can just return close: 2 which will close two panels.
