The Merlin simulator seems to optionally use memfd. We should document that memfd is Linux-only and make sure that everything works fine on Windows -- in particular since the Merlin control PC is Windows 10. :-)

True - I guess we could adjust the error that is thrown when running on Windows? --cached=MEM should work on all OSes, although it is the less tested code path.
