Missing! - Cannot add marker correctly to new layer / new dataset

When adding a marker to an empty dataset, the marker location cannot be selected. An error message is displayed: "missing!". When the browser is refreshed, the items show up in the legend.
New items are not displayed on the map because initially, Uncategorized has visibility OFF.
