Blender doesn't seem to support the 'older' specular workflow out of the box. In theory, it's possible to make a custom node setup, however creating one in a correct fashion would be time consuming. For the time being, I won't be fixing this, but I may revisit this issue in the future.
It should also be possible for users to create a custom material setup in MatLayer 3, which effectively provides the older specular workflow if they have the technical know-how to do so.
