The Unarchiver fails to de-archive zip archive with bad dir CRC but all files OK.

Michael McDuffie (mmcduffie):

I have several zip files that open fine in an app that uses XADMaster but oddly fail to de-archive with The Unachiver and unar. The issue appears to be a bad CRC for the top level directory in the archive. All files pass CRC.

The zip archives test and extract fine with 7z — which is likely an oversight as unzip does give a warning (but also de-archives all files fine). The Unarchiver and unar fail to create the directory and all subsequent files. A zero byte file with the dir name is created instead.

The zip archives are corrupt but the files should be recoverable in this case by TU.

Example needed.
