Automatic update?

I installed QLVideo three years ago. Until very recently, I did not realize that it does not automatically update. The packages I use typically fall into two categories: source codes with updates managed by homebrew, and GUI applications (binaries) that offer a mechanism to automatically update themselves. I know there is also brew cask, but I have not found a need for it so far.

Is there any potential security risk in using an outdated QLVideo? Will automatic update be offered going forward?

I ended up needing a few more quick look plugins, and it now makes sense to use brew cask. Hopefully the updates are managed by homebrew.
