Suggestion for additional polygon sets

Roger put together this list of useful datasets and Jon concurs that several of them would be good additions to our suite of MazamaSpatialUtils converted datasets.

Please create convert scripts for the following spatial datasets marked with checkboxes:

Homeland Infrastructure Foundation-Level Data

  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regions - This dataset represents delineated EPA Region boundaries. EPA has ten regional offices across the country, each of which is responsible for several states and in some cases, territories or special environmental programs.
  • 2010 Census Urban Area National - After each decennial census, the Census Bureau delineates urban areas that represent densely developed territory, encompassing residential, commercial, and other nonresidential urban land uses. In general, this territory consists of areas of high population density and urban land use resulting in a representation of the "urban footprint."

U.S. Forest Service

  • Ranger Districts - Forest Service administrative area boundaries. The purpose of the data is to provide display, identification, and analysis tools for determining current boundary information for Forest Service managers, GIS Specialists, and others.
  • MTBS Burn Area Boundary - The Monitoring Trends in Burn Severity (MTBS) project assesses the frequency, extent, and magnitude (size and severity) of all large wildland fires (includes wildfire, wildland fire use, and prescribed fire) in the conterminous United States (CONUS), Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico for the period of 1984 through 2017. (What a find! This is a potentially extremely relevant dataset for the USFS AirFire group. I've not heard about it before.)
