Feature Request: Scandoubler Fx (particularly HQ2x)

Opened this issue · 1 comments

The vast majority of console cores have a feature called "Scandoubler Fx" where you can choose from the following values to give your games a distinct look. These settings are usually placed in the Audio & Video sections of the core config menu. The values are usually as follows:
--HQ2x
--CRT 25%
--CRT 50%
--CRT 75%

This is a feature request to add those options in the core. Personally, I don't use the CRT options because I prefer the Adaptive Scanlines in the Video Processing section of each core. I'm mainly requesting this feature because the HQ2x is a great option that I personally use in conjuction with Adaptive Scanlines and makes the rough pixel edges much sharper and gives the illusion that the game is slightly upscaled. It's a neat trick that I use in the Saturn and GBA core since there's a lot of sharp pixels particularly on those cores.

Could this feature be implemented on the PSX core? It'd be nice to have the 3 CRT filters, but those have been outclassed by the Video Filters section so I'd be content with just HQ2x on the PSX core. I also opened the same feature request on the N64 core BTW: MiSTer-devel/N64_MiSTer#32

That aspect of the scaler (as well as the gamma feature) was purposefully bypassed to save resources and help meet timing closure in both the PSX core and the N64 core.
