What will happen in your session?
With the advent of connected devices in this era of Internet of Things, safeguarding our online privacy is no longer limited to our online activities in front of a internet enabled computer. This is the age where even our most mundane habits and activities within as well as our homes are susceptible to tracking and prying eyes.
In this session, we would be having some activities followed by a talk about the threats to data privacy, challenges and prospects of IoT in an age where our ability to collect and process data has overwhelmed our ability to protect that information. We will talk about what it means by securing devices, not just data and the responsibility for data privacy.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
IoT is now a reality where smart devices collect data and relay information to one another. While it enables us to carry out our business virtually at any time in any place, the fact that the personal information can be collected, stored and used without any consent or awareness is a critical issue for violation of privacy in our everyday lives.
Data privacy does not necessarily mean keeping our data private, it means taking charge of what we choose to divulge about ourselves. The goal of this session is to educate the participants on how to take charge of their own data and paying close attention to the data that they share.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
- A Projector
- Some Post-its
- Pens
- A Flip-chart
Time needed
less than 60 mins
P.S. The primary language for this session is going to be English. However, since I'm quite fluent in Hindi and Bengali, I can conduct the session in any of the three languages, depending on the participants.
Hey @bunnybooboo I see that the assignment and tags have been removed. Does this mean that this proposal didn't make it to the next round?
Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest.
Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.
You'll receive a follow up email from us in the next few days.
