Large projects many files large sizes. v1.4.0 .. just doens't handle it?

So trying v1.4.0 trying on fairly large project at least I'd say 15gb Unity project.. trying to just see uncommited files to start staging is a no go, it just doesn't work
smaller projects its fine.. no errors or logs to report just never completes is ever responsive on such a project was setup prior with git init
