Ubuntu 16.04 - 64-bit agent support (in the official repo)

Dear all,

I'd like to point to confusion regarding Ubuntu 16.04 and NCPA support for it.

First of all, I'd like to point that installing https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/ncpa3/ncpa-latest-1.amd64.deb on 64-bit Ubuntu 16.04 runs fine, service starts, and agent reports to Nagios server, showing version 3.1.0.

Official download page links to https://repo.nagios.com/?repo=deb-ubuntu which in turn links to repo containing 2.4.1 as latest build (package) for 16.04.

On another hand, https://www.nagios.org/ncpa/archive.php lists 3.0.2 with description DEB Linux 9 + / Ubuntu 16 and DEB - 64bit.

This github page (README) says We currently build for the following operating systems on x86-64 architectures: ... Ubuntu 18+. Then below it also mentions Ubuntu 16, but only 32-bit version as Older systems that have been supported by NCPA in the past: ... Ubuntu 16.04 32b.

While I am more than aware that 16.04 is no longer supported by default 5-year plan, it is still under extended support for a few years. If this project has a running and functional 3.1.0 agent, and a repo for Ubuntu 16.04, why not simply offer latest amd64 file through that repo?

Or, if Ubuntu 16.04 is no longer deemed as supported by latest NCPA, remove the repo and place it all in the archive (not something I would like, but it would at least be consistent).

We only have a few servers left with this OS, so we just do manual upgrades of the plugin. But it would still be nicer to do the upgrade with the same script that we use for other servers.

Thank you for reading and considering this,
Luka
