Ho to debug hardware/software issues?

Hi,
I'm very very excited about this project but not yet had the chance to see my setup working. Only 1 motor is working (Y). When I run pycnc none of the motors seem to do anything, apart from Y. If I swap the cables I can see the motor working connected to the Y cable, which means the motors aren't dead.
My question is, how to debug things? How to locate the problem? Is there a way to control motors separately, outside of pycnc?
First, when I was assembling things I accidentally put the stepper boards wrong direction resulting burnout. I've got Ramps 1.6 where the stepper slots seems to be 180 degrees rotated... I had to buy new stepper ICs. I also replaced the Ramps board and the Raspberry, same result. Last thing hasn't been replaced is the ADC. Is it possible that the ADC was burnt too?
If not, this should be a software related issue. But I have no idea where to start if so.

I have figured it out. Very silly mistake, the ens were not wired...
