Description

A user authenticated MVC website for managing a bakery's treats and assigning flavors in a many-to-many relationship.

Setup Instructions

You Will Need:

A code editor, such as VS Code
Git installed
Install .Net 6 SDK:
Install MySqlWorkbench Follow installation instructions

Preliminary Project Set-up:

Clone or download this repository to your machine.
Navigate to the local directory (YourPath/PierresTreats-main/PierresTreats) and create a new file "appsettings.json".
Open the file in VS Code and add:

IMPORTANT: Be sure to replace your username, password, and name of your database for the fields [YOUR-USER-HERE], [YOUR-PASSWORD-HERE], AND [YOUR-DB-NAME].

Create a .gitignore file and add "appsettings.json", "bin", and "obj" to the ignored file list.
Open your shell (e.g., Terminal or GitBash) and add your .gitignore file and commit it before adding any other files.
Navigate to this project's production directory called "PierresTreats".
In the command line, run these commands in order

$ dotnet tool install --global dotnet-ef --version 6.0.0
$ dotnet ef migrations add Initial
$ dotnet ef migrations add AddItemsPriority
$ dotnet ef database update (- Run this command anytime changes are made to the database -)

Then, run the command dotnet run to compile and execute the console application. Optionally, you can run dotnet build to compile this console app without running it.
Run dotnet watch run in the command line to start the project in development mode with a watcher.
Open the browser to https://localhost:5001. If you cannot access localhost:5001 it is likely because you have not configured a .NET developer security certificate for HTTPS. To learn about this, review this lesson: Redirecting to HTTPS and Issuing a Security Certificate.
