Global 2014: consider online dataset submission

Rather than a typical manuscript, could submit a Data Descriptor to Nature: Scientific Data. From blog entry:

Scientific Data doesn't directly host the dataset but offers a citable reference (with DOI and pseudo manuscript description) For dataset hosts it works well with: Figshare, Dryad. See more on how to submit.

Should also consider synchronization with Github and DataOne.

Here are a few examples of publications from Scientific Data:

1. Systematic global assessment of reef fish communities by the Reef Life Survey program
2. microclim: Global estimates of hourly microclimate based on long-term monthly climate averages
