Html Placeholder on Date Input - IOS/Safari

It would be nice if they developed some solution for placeholder. They do not work in input date type. Placeholders are extremely useful, working with separate labels is bad in mobile applications.
It seems the problem is only on ios / safari. I tried this solution without much success:
