SOS # sequence in full text index causes result not to be found

Appears to be an SQL Server issue, may require work around. If the exact sequence "SOS #" occurs somewhere within the full text indexed field - the SOS must be in capitals, and must be followed by one or more spaces and a digit - both the SOS and the # will not be found the full-text index. An alternate capitalization of SOS will work, any other words tested next to a digit do not cause an issue, and punctuation between SOS and the digit are also found without issue. Occurs with direct CONTAINS query (not a result of criteria being sent to the search).
This is a very bizarre and specific issue. It is being noted here for reference and may need a workaround, as there have been issues in production applications.
