Would you tell me why tracker need to be open-source?

I always think of the reason why a project need to be open-source. Would you tell me why? As you have said in you website those who may use tracker may shy away from computer modeling with traditional programming tools. So I thought the source is of little use to all those related to tracker. I sorry to say that, but I really don't have a thought of why all projects tend to be open-source. Please tell me your reason, if you would. Thanks very much.
Leo, the purpose of open source is to create opportunities for other
programmers and students to add, modify or borrow code if they wish.
Open source projects do not "need" to be open source unless they use
open source code obtained elsewhere. Anybody may choose to ignore the
source code if they wish, but there will always be some who will can
reuse the code in another project, or who wish to contribute to the
project. The entire spirit of open source is sharing for the benefit of
other programmers.

Thank you for telling me this. I am sorry for having overlooked your replay.
Get it. My specialty is researching how to use OSS in education(I am majoring in educational technology in East China Normal University). I am not capable now to contribute to such projects. I wish I would learn Java and Python and Linux shell well to do my job better someday.
I find little project like traker on Github. Would you tell me how to find more awesome open source projec? I wish I would do more for promoting open source in Chinese education.
Hello Leo,
I suggest you contact Thomas Ding at ding.xiaobin2004@gmail.com. He has
done the Simplified Chinese translations for Tracker and is an expert on
educational software in China.
best regards,
Doug Brown
