gallery does not display ".gif" image

Gallery does not display ".gif" images.

  1. If a gif is clicked in the "browse" tab, gallery displays another compatible image (possibly the next one in the list that is not a gif). When that happens, the url in the url bar still shows the name of the gif in the "selected" param. No preview icon is shown either.
  2. If in gallery, gifs are completely skipped.

Browser: Chrome Version 52.0.2743.82 (64-bit)
OS: Linux Mint 14 x64

No errors in dev console, during either action.

Edit: added sample gif that doesn't work.
