When using this playbook to install MariaDB "securely", then you'll receive the following error during deployment: (item=localhost) => {"failed": true, "item": "localhost", "msg": "the python mysqldb module is required"}

This is because the required packages aren't installed, see also the third note in the corresponding documentation.
